This revealing narrative shows that, as First Lady, Mary Lincoln accepted bribes and kickbacks, sold permits and pardons, engaged in extortion, and peddled influence. ![]() ![]() Personally, I thought it ended the right way. Based on thirty years of research, An American Marriage describes and analyzes why Lincoln had good reason to regret his marriage to Mary Todd. I feel that there was no all ‘good or bad’ person, but rather a host of complications and flaws. And I liked Andre, who finally acted on his feelings for Celestial but at the wrong time. Heartbroken for Roy but also sad for Celestial. I found myself empathizing with all the characters. ![]()
